If I had to sum up my experience with a Ranger backpack, I’d say this: it’s like an elite special forces operative whose primary mission is to guard and secure your gear in urban environments. It sounds a bit bold, but it’s a conclusion backed by real-world practice.
The Ranger is a comfortable and functional everyday backpack with a simple yet robust design. It features high-quality, durable materials and a versatile 22-liter volume — just enough to keep everything you need by your side.
From one article to the next, there is a recurring theme of longevity and endurance, both in the individual materials and GUD products as a whole. This isn't self-repetition; it’s the core characteristic that makes people choose these bags and backpacks in the first place.
Material Features
The black Ranger is crafted from dense, water-resistant Nylon 600D PU. While swimming with it probably isn't a good idea, any rain or snow will go unnoticed by your gear. The material’s strength guarantees years of worry-free daily use. The backpack's current look is the result of several upgrades. Most recently, the standard buckles on the main flap and sides were replaced with high-speed magnetic thermoplastic fasteners. They offer exceptional resistance to low temperatures and heavy loads, significantly enhancing the pack's long-term utility.
I’m not a fan of rain, but it was quite fitting that it started pouring on the day I took photos for this article. The Ranger survived it all, and the items inside did too. The laptop I’m using to write this article is living proof.
The Ranger also comes in a tactical Sand color, which is crafted from Cordura 1000D as the primary material. Cordura feels rougher and denser than Nylon 600D PU, but in practice, it serves the same purpose. The fabric is incredibly strong with high tear resistance, which in real life means the backpack will last an exceptionally long time. This is proven by the fact that Cordura remains the standard for military tactical gear. On the Sand model, the fasteners are color-matched side-release buckles that GUD has used for years, known for withstanding heavy stress.
Whenever I talk about backpacks, I’ll always remind you about the chest strap. It’s not included with the backpack but is available on the accessories page. It might seem like a small thing, but it adds immense comfort for daily, and especially prolonged, wear. It's a personal preference, but I highly recommend checking it out.
The Ranger features a fairly simple and convenient form factor. It has three external pockets, two of which are flat and designed for small essentials like keys or documents, and a side pocket for a water bottle. There is also side access to the main internal compartment if you need to quickly grab something on the go. Inside, you’ll find three more pockets: two flat sleeves that perfectly fit a MacBook up to 16”, a tablet, or a book, and a zippered mesh pocket where I, for example, keep my charging cables. And, of course, the main compartment is where the bulkier items for the day go, from a lunch box to gym clothes.
It's worth nothing that the main compartment partially resembles a rolltop, as the top flap allows the internal volume to be increased by a few liters. Few people emphasize this, but if necessary, the Ranger can fit "one more loaf of bread" than planned. One unusual feature is the two side compression straps with magnetic fasteners for securing additional gear, such as a tripod or a sleeping pad. Without extra items, these fasteners look like a deliberate design choice that certainly doesn't hurt the overall aesthetic.
The Velcro panel on the front wall is a great touch, allowing you to customize the backpack. As they say, "actions, not words," and you can find plenty of patches among GUD accessories to make it your own.
Few people know that the yellow interior lining in GUD products isn't just a design choice or a clever use of brand colors. Bright yellow is a practical tool that makes it easier to find things inside the backpack in the dark. It is from such details that the Ranger is built. At a time when "Made in Ukraine" has taken on even greater meaning, it is very rewarding to know that for over ten years (almost 14 at the time of writing), a brand has existed in Ukraine creating high-quality, durable backpacks with such attention to detail.
What is the conclusion? The Ranger is unlikely to become your primary luggage on long trips. Objectively, 22L is not the volume that allows you to pack everything for an extended journey. But this backpack will definitely become your ideal daily companion. That is probably why it remains one of the best-selling models among all GUD backpacks. You might change your outfit several times a day depending on your plans, but the Ranger is ready to adapt to everything.
