With more than a decade of experience in backpack production, it would have been strange not to eventually create the largest, toughest, and most advanced backpack in the GUD lineup. That is exactly how Utility came to life.
It offers 30 liters of capacity in ultra-durable CORDURA® 1000D. We combined an all-weather construction, a protected compartment for a MacBook up to 16", and the functionality of tactical gear in one backpack. No compromises, just readiness for demanding everyday use. Designed with tactical equipment in mind, Utility features a velcro panel and a large internal volume for daily gear and tech.
To begin with, this backpack is part of the Utility Line, a collection of backpacks and bags built on our experience in tactical gear production. We took solutions proven in military conditions and adapted them for civilian use, keeping what matters most: reliability, functionality, and durability.
Tactical Experience in Everyday Products
Our Utility Line is the result of years of experience in tactical gear production. Since 2014, we have been making medical pouches and covers for assault shields. Since 2022, we have also developed plate carriers, bags for sappers, and IFAKs for the National Guard.
We took technological solutions tested in real field conditions and adapted them for the city. That is how Utility appeared: a backpack with a restrained design and the character of professional equipment.
Tactical gear must provide protection, comfort, mobility, and efficiency in demanding situations. That same approach shaped the Utility Line. Durable materials, a thought-through construction, and a restrained design come together here in a backpack made for everyday use.
Materials and Protection
At the core of Utility is uncompromising CORDURA® 1000D. We chose it so the backpack would still be serving you years from now.
Utility is available in two colors: restrained Black and tactical Sand.
Why CORDURA®? Because this is one of the clearest examples of military-grade technology becoming the standard for long-term durability in everyday use.
CORDURA® has earned its reputation well beyond tactical applications. Its main advantages are exceptional strength, resistance to постоянні loads, ease of care, resistance to moisture, and resistance to fading. That is what makes it so widely trusted, but the story starts earlier.
Why do we rely on this material so much? The answer is simple: it does not hide the load, it takes it on.
In the 1960s, DuPont developed CORDURA® as a replacement for cotton, which simply could not survive the humidity of the Vietnamese jungle. The secret lies in the yarn thickness, measured in denier. The higher the number, the thicker the thread. We chose 1000D, the gold standard for tactical gear. It means the fabric can handle years of hard friction, dirt, and bad weather.
CORDURA® also ages well. Even after 5 to 7 years of active use, it does not turn into worn-out fabric. Instead, it gains character, much like a good pair of jeans that only gets better with time.
The backpack also features compression straps with MOLLE webbing on the front panel and side panels. They help regulate volume, stabilize the contents, and attach additional pouches or gear on the outside.
We replaced metal hardware with lightweight thermoplastic hardware. It does not rust, performs reliably in freezing temperatures, and significantly reduces the weight of a 30-liter backpack.
For documents and small essentials, Utility features a front flat pocket with a water-resistant zipper. It adds another layer of protection when the weather turns bad.
Organization and Functionality
Utility gives you 30 liters of freedom. That volume works just as well for daily life in the city as it does for a weekend trip. Laptop, сменний одяг, tech, and everyday essentials all fit inside. And if you need more, the external attachment points are there to expand your setup.
Like other GUD backpacks, Utility includes a separate internal compartment for safe laptop transport. It fits a MacBook up to 16".
Inside, there is also a dedicated space for a tablet, two mesh pockets for a thermos or bottle, and an organizer for smaller items you want to keep close at hand.
Unlike most other GUD products, the interior lining is done in a light sand color. Since Utility is inspired by tactical gear and belongs to the Utility Line, we chose a sand lining instead of our signature bright yellow. It feels calmer, but serves the same purpose: helping you find what you need faster inside the backpack.
On the outside, essentials stay within easy reach. We added a top pocket for the items that usually disappear at the bottom of a backpack, such as keys, headphones, or a wallet.
On the front, there is our velcro section. It gives you space for patches or reflectors, so you can customize Utility in the way that works best for you.
As a result, Utility is a backpack made for those who always run out of space in regular city backpacks. It offers a strong balance between large capacity and everyday comfort. Take everything you need, and a little more.
